Fred Nickols

Welcome to another great interview from the Linked:HR interview series! This interview was recorded by Liz Tomlin-Travis and Kathy Frank, my graduate students at the Adult Learning and Organizational Performance Master's program at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  This time you will hear from internationally renowned evaluation expert Fred Nickols.



Fred Nickols is the managing partner of Distance Consulting, LLC, where he provides advice and assistance related to matters of individual, operational and organizational performance.  Fred has been a consultant (internal and external) for 40 years.   Fred also accepted executive-level positions with two of his clients.  He was SVP for Systems and Operations at Monarch Financial Services and he was an Executive Director and head of Strategic Planning and Management Services at Educational Testing Service (ETS).  Before entering the private sector he served 20 years in the United States Navy where saw duty as a classroom instructor, a developer of programmed instructional materials and instructional systems, and as an internal organization development (OD) consultant.  


Mr. Nickols has published close to 100 articles on a wide range of topics in a variety of professional journals and magazines.  His current focus is on a systematic process for improving performance that he calls “Solution Engineering.”
